Why use Run-It before buying running shoes?
Run-It turns a recent Garmin or Stryd run into a focused, data-backed shoe shortlist before you spend money. Instead of relying only on reviews, hype, questionnaires, or a short store check, you start from how you actually move.
What happens after I upload a run?
Run-It reads the FIT file, analyzes running dynamics like cadence, ground contact time, vertical oscillation, stride length, and pace, then returns shoe matches for daily, tempo, and race use with clear match labels.
How does Run-It make shoe matches?
Run-It scores supported Garmin or Stryd running dynamics and compares those signals with shoe characteristics. The point is to replace generic shoe quizzes and one-off store gait snapshots as the primary decision layer for road-shoe selection, with fit and sizing support planned as the next layer of the purchase workflow.
Why is Run-It different from an in-store gait analysis?
A store gait analysis is often based on a short treadmill observation or a pronation label. Run-It uses a real run with real pacing and recorded running dynamics, so the shortlist reflects more of your actual movement context.
Can I use Run-It with Garmin only?
Yes. Run-It works with supported Garmin watches that record running dynamics. Stryd can add a foot-mounted signal when you have it, but Garmin-only users can still run the analysis and get personalized shoe matches.
What should I upload from Garmin?
Run-It needs the original Garmin FIT file from a supported run. In Garmin Connect, open the activity, use the gear menu, and choose Export Original. That file keeps the running dynamics Run-It uses for shoe matching.
Why is Run-It Basic plan free?
The core daily, tempo, and race shortlist is free because every runner should be able to get a useful starting point from their own data. The paid tier is for deeper custom checks, advanced metrics, and more detailed comparison tools.
What does Run-It Pro add?
Run-It Pro adds custom shoe checks, race-distance filters, advanced biomechanical metrics, and owned-shoe efficiency comparison. The Run-It Basic plan is for quick, useful shoe matching; Pro is for runners who want advanced metrics around those decisions.
Why does Run-It separate daily, tempo, and race matches?
The best shoe for easy mileage is not always the best shoe for fast workouts or race day. Run-It separates daily, tempo, and race results so the recommendation is tied to the purpose of the shoe.
Can I use Run-It for barefoot or trail shoes?
No. Run-It is built for road running shoes. It is not for barefoot or minimalist shoes, and it is not for trail shoes. Those categories depend on factors Run-It does not currently model, such as ground feel, protection, outsole grip, terrain, mud, rocks, and technical trail stability.
How reliable are Run-It matches?
Run-It works best with a steady run on relatively flat terrain, where the movement signal is clean. The matches are a strong data-backed starting point; final choice still depends on foot shape, size, comfort, injury history, and preference.
Can Run-It help before I buy shoes online?
Yes. Run-It gives you a more focused shortlist before you buy, which is especially useful when you are comparing models online and cannot try every option first. You can still use the result in-store as a sharper starting point for fit checks.
Can Run-It compare shoes I already own?
Yes, in Run-It Pro. Owned-shoe efficiency comparison helps you understand how shoes in your current rotation perform against your running data, instead of only looking at new shoes.
Is Run-It medical advice?
No. Run-It is a shoe comparison and running analytics platform, not a medical device. It can help compare shoe options, but pain, recurring injury, or medical concerns should be discussed with a qualified healthcare professional.
Is my running data private?
Run-It processes FIT files and synced running data to provide performance analytics and shoe recommendations. It does not sell personal running data for advertising. The full policy is available in the Privacy Policy.
